Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno Visits Soundview Paper Company

Trenton, NJ – Emphasizing the contributions of New Jersey’s manufacturing industry to advance the state and local economies, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno today visited Elmwood Park’s Soundview Paper Company, a manufacturer of towel and tissue products. The visit continues the Lt. Governor’s tour of manufacturers across New Jersey, with a spotlight on the important economic contributions this vital industry sector brings to the Garden State in terms of business investment and job creation.

In addition to providing jobs for its workers, Soundview also purchases goods and services with a local focus, further sustaining jobs for people within the North Jersey region. Goods and services Soundview purchases from New Jersey vendors include chemicals, equipment parts, and welding and waste hauling services.

“Soundview Paper is an important participant in our Garden State economy,” said Lt. Governor Guadagno. “The Elmwood Park facility not only provides jobs for New Jersey workers, but the purchases the company makes supports other local businesses and helps to create jobs in our communities. Soundview’s continuing commitment to New Jersey clearly demonstrates its confidence in the Christie Administration’s pro-business and pro-job creation policies that are generating investment and creating employment opportunities for New Jersey residents.”

Soundview Paper entered the New Jersey market earlier this year when it acquired Marcal Paper Mills, founded in 1932. Owned by Atlas Holdings, Soundview employs more than 8,000 workers and operates 70 facilities worldwide, including pulp, paper, and tissue manufacturing, food and agriculture, wood products and building materials, packaging, capital equipment, and industrial and business services.

To attract and retain manufacturers, New Jersey offers several incentives aimed at expanding the state’s economy. Incentives include tax exemption programs designed just for manufacturers; rebates and low-cost financing for renewable energy systems, equipment and technologies that save energy; grants for job growth that provide direct payments to businesses that create jobs in New Jersey; sales and use tax exemptions for the purchase of fixtures, furniture, building materials and equipment needed for business relocation; and workforce training grants that provide skilled training, education and a wide range of support to workers and employers.

Since taking office in January 2010, the Christie Administration has helped nearly 45 manufacturers locate or expand in New Jersey, creating nearly 8,200 jobs, retaining more than 1,800 jobs and generating more than $2 billion in private investment in the state.

Led by Lt. Governor Guadagno, the New Jersey Partnership for Action (PFA) supports the vital role business plays in advancing the state’s economy and creating jobs. The PFA is a three-pronged public-private approach to economic development and the starting point for all initiatives, policies, and efforts to grow New Jersey’s economy and create quality, sustainable jobs in our communities.
